Tom O'Flaherty's 'Vision for a Just Society' and the launch of "An Bhrachlainn Mhór," the short stories of Tomás Ó Flaithearta, among the highlights of this year's Féile.

The 7th Féile na bhFlaitheartach, celebrating the writings and work of Liam and Tom O'Flaherty, takes place on Inis Mór, Aran Islands, on August 24th and 25th.

Lucas Franco will link Tom O'Flaherty's ideas to the modern concept of what is termed the Precariat - the emerging class of people facing lives of insecurity, moving in and out of jobs that give little meaning to their lives.

The keynote address at Féile na bhFlaitheartach this year, entitled Renewing Tom O'Flaherty's Vision for a Just Society: The relevance of his 1930's advocacy for collective worker power today, will be delivered by Lucas Franco, a Ph.D. student in Political Science at the University of Minnesota and currently Research Manager for Laborers' International Union of North America (LIUNA) - (Minnesota and North Dakota Region).

Getting there, Accommodation and Confirming your Attendance

Accommodation on Inis Mór for Saturday night August 24th is very limited. Keep an eye on and other online information because accommodation sometimes becomes available at short notice due to cancellations.

However, it is possible to attend most of the events by making a day visit to the island. Aran Island Ferries depart Ros a’ Mhíl for Kilronan, Inis Mór on the Saturday morning at 10.30am. The last boat returns from Kilronan at 6.30pm.

You are advised to arrive at Ros a’ Mhíl at 9.45am. Once the first boat has its full complement of passengers, it will depart - this is sometimes as early as 10.00am. The second boat may then leave a little later than 10.30am.

Féile na bhFlaitheartach will have bus transport available outside the Tourist Office in Kilronan as soon as the first ferry arrives which will take participants to Kilmurvey House.

In order for us to decide on the level of transport needed, it would be helpful to us if you indicated in the Comment section (bottom of this page) of your intention to attend the Féile.
